Objective

I am currently interested in an internship in the professional and business services/and or Government industry. As a Journalism major with a concentration in Public Relations, my future goal is to work as a Public Relations Specialist where I can employ my skills in communication, expertise in three different foreign languages(German, Twi, English) and Global Politics to enhance my future client's image and public affairs. My position as a delegate for the Model UN (college version of the United Nations) at Rider University has given me the opportunity to acquire communications skills as well as writings skills, specific for that career. I have held many leadership positions on my campus which has helped me value the importance of team work as well as giving back to the community. I have learned through these roles how to take initiatives and delegate tasks in a group, in addition to time management skills.

In order to have a better understanding of my objectives I have included a Resume, in which my work experiences, leadership skills, and goals as far as both long term and short term are illustrated.

I found my career on the MyFuture.com website.

Building a Legacy

As I entered my freshman year at Rider University, I knew I came to Rider to receive more than just an education...my goal was to leave a legacy as I walked down to receive my diploma on May 11, 2012.

To help me hgain a better understanding of what it means to leave a legacy, I met with Nick Barbati, the former executive vice president of Student Government Association and also a graduate of Rider University, who has become a good friend of mine. I thought he would be the perfect person to talk to since he is well known here at Rider University. Nick has won several honors/awards such as the Presidents' Award. I talked to him about getting involved and making a difference.

As a result of that, I became:

  • Clubs and Organizations chair for Student Government Association (Fall 2009-Spring 2010).
  • One of the first freshman students to be part of the Model United Nations at Rider University
  • A member of the Leadership Development Program
  • A brother of Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity
  • A peer mentor for the Multicultural Student Leadership Institute
  • The vice president and the president of the Tau Kappa chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.
  • A member of the elite professional development group - DAARSTOC
  • A member of Community Standards Board
  • A member of the Commencement Speakers Selection

A Letter from Me to You

Hello dear reviewer,

I am very happy and honored to share my world with you. I have come a long way, on the contrary my journey starts now at Rider University with a major in  Public Relations and a minor in Global Studies. Traveling as a young child with my parents has played a huge role in selecting my major and minor, in addition to my interest/hobbies such as traveling, global politics, community service, and learning different cultures, languages etc.

As a person, I am very open minded, determined and I work well with others. In fact, I am very passionate about team work. I have had the opportunity in my previous work experiences to work with wonderful co workers, who showed me the true meaning of working together in a cohesive environment. My cultural background has been a vital key in my ability to blend well with people of all cultural backgrounds.

I am enthusiastic about reaching my long term goal as a Public Relation Specialist, which will allow me to demonstrate my passion in helping others. My intention is to bring out these qualities to you as an intern or employee and as a person. I am a hard working student, who can perform tasks in a slow paced environment, as well as in a fast paced environment. I hope this blog will enable me to illustrate my goals to you and maybe we can further discuss it.

Thank you,

Stephanie Ahenkora

Reaching out to Others

I am strongly committed to community service, I feel as though that through voluntary work I have learned the importance of giving or sharing, working hard and appreciating what God has given us.

I was introduced to community outreach service when I transferred to Phillipsburg High School, NJ in 2007. The township itself is big on given back to the community. As a Junior in High Schoo, I joined various organizations such as the Interact Club, a community service based club and the Step Dance Team, a dance team. What both had in common was their dedication to community service.

In the past, I volunteered for Special Olympic, a non profit organization for the disadvantage citizens, where I assisted in the setup and during the game.

I have done the AIDS Walk in Philly for the past two years, and in the fall 2010 I had the pleasure and honor to be named team captain. As the team captain  I motivated my team  "The KnockOWTS" to raise $200 in a matter of two weeks. More importantly, we had a great time doing the walk as it brought as closer together and support a great cause.
